LCL or FCL: start with your shipment
Container planning starts with cargo information. The right discussion considers volume, handling, route and timing together.
Two ways to plan container space
LCL means less than container load: cargo shares container space with other shipments. FCL means full container load: a container is booked for a dedicated shipment, even if it is not filled to its maximum capacity.
Look beyond the freight number
Ask about pickup, consolidation, port handling, destination charges and delivery scope. A useful comparison needs the same inclusions on both quotations.
Consider the product and packing
Moisture sensitivity, odour, handling and packing strength can affect the plan. Share the commodity, gross weight, dimensions and pallet details with the logistics provider.
Confirm the actual route
Schedules, transit estimates and costs are route-specific. Discuss options for the intended port and shipping period rather than relying on a general rule.
